The SpeakSee device uses intelligent microphones to filter out background noise and capture every speaker’s voice clearly. The conversation is transmitted to a smartphone, which instantly converts speech into text — all in less than a second. This makes SpeakSee an invaluable tool for the deaf and hard of hearing. In group conversations, each participant can even be assigned a unique color, making it easy to follow who’s speaking.
Our collaboration with SpeakSee began about five years ago. Together, we created a targeted subsidy strategy and launched multiple funding applications. Since then, several grants have been successfully secured — including a €40,000 start-up budget from CityLab010 in 2019, ongoing support through the WBSO innovation subsidy, and a successful fundraising campaign. The partnership also resulted in a positive grant decision from the Kansen voor West program.
